
Sol Tie FC Gold Pride to Capture Regular Season Title

SANTA CLARA, CA - July 23, 2009 - The Los Angeles Sol (Women's Professional Soccer) tied FC Gold Pride 0-0 at Buck Shaw Stadium Thursday night.
The tie improves the Sol's record to 11-2-5 (38 pts.) and secures the WPS regular season title and a berth in the August 22 WPS Championship at The Home Depot Center. FC Gold Pride drops to a 3-9-4 record (13 points).
Both teams had numerous shots on goal. Most notably was the shot by Han Duan in the 67th minute, which was blocked by Pride's Alison Whitworth. The FC Gold Pride had three shots on goal, but Sol's Karina LeBlanc was able to maintain the shutout.
"We are delighted to win the WPS Regular Season title," said Los Angeles Sol Head Coach Abner Rogers. "We have had a great a great five months and are very happy to have won for the city of Los Angeles and our great fans."
The Sol's regular season crown comes with three weeks still left in the season with the other six teams still fighting for the final three WPS Playoff spots. The St. Louis Athletica was the only other WPS team still with a mathematical chance of catching the Sol entering today's game.
Individual tickets for the inaugural WPS Championship will go on-sale to the general public on Wednesday, July 29th at the Home Depot Center Box Office Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster phone and retail outlets.
