CAMBRIDGE, MA - August 9, 2009 - The Los Angeles Sol (Women's Professional Soccer), who have already captured the WPS regular season championship, closed out its WPS regular season with a 2-1 victory over the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Breakers opened the scoring in the 17th minute when all-star midfielder Kelly Smith collected a pass from U.S. National Team midfielder Kristine Lilly and slipped a shot pass the Sol's all-star goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc. Despite several first-half scoring opportunities for the Sol, the Breakers carried the 1-0 lead into the half.

The Sol tied the game in the 60th minute when midfielder Aly Wagner assisted all-star forward Marta on a goal to even the match at 1-1. Sol captain Shannon Boxx provided the difference on a penalty kick in the 93rd minute of action to help the Sol to the victory and a final regular season record of 12-3-5.

The Los Angeles Sol will return to action on Saturday, August 22, at 1pm when they host an opponent to be determined in the 2009 WPS Championship presented by MedImmune at The Home Depot Center.
