
Los Angeles Galaxy Forward Edson Buddle Voted MLS Player Of The Month For April

NEW YORK (April 29, 2010) - Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) today announced that Los Angeles Galaxy forward Edson Buddle was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for April. Buddle recorded seven goals in five games, leading the Galaxy to a 4-0-1 record during the first month of the 2010 MLS season.
Buddle kicked off his unprecedented seven-goal barrage just six minutes into the Galaxy's 2010 season opener against the New England Revolution, when he headed home a Landon Donovan free kick.
Buddle continued his offensive tear with two goals in each of the Galaxy's next matches, a 2-0 victory over rival Chivas USA, and a 2-0 defeat of Houston Dynamo.
In an MLS Cup Final rematch against Real Salt Lake on April 17, Buddle scored his sixth and seventh goals, including the game winner on a stunning half volley in the 76th minute. With this performance, Buddle was voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 4 of the MLS season.
Buddle has scored all seven of the Galaxy's goals this season as the club remains undefeated (4-0-1) through the team's best start since 1998.
This is Buddle's second Player of the Month award. His first came in August of 2002, when he notched four goals and two assists as a member of the Columbus Crew.
Buddle, a native of Westchester County, N.Y., joined MLS in 2001 when he was signed by the Columbus Crew. Buddle's MLS career has included stints with the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC before he the Galaxy acquired him in June of 2007. Buddle has made one appearance for the U.S. Men's National Team, that in 2003. He has also represented the United States at the Under-18, -20 and -23 levels, including a trip to the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championships where he scored once in a 4-1 win over Chile.
The Major League Soccer Player of the Month is selected following the last regular season game of each month by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
