Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN, S.C. - Despite drilling three home runs in the contest, the Aiken Foxhounds (15-9) dropped game one of their three-game series with the Bradenton Juice Thursday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Juice, playing the series as the home team, jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 lead.
The Juice jumped on the board in the first inning, plating two runs on three hits against Aiken starter Reid Price (2-2). Eddie Kim and Noah Peery each plated a run with an RBI single.
Two innings later Bradenton added another pair of runs for a 4-0 lead, scoring on a single by Brennan Herrera and a double off the bat of Jean Castro.
Meanwhile, Lavelle Morgan, the South Coast League's leader in strikeouts, cruised through the first three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four.
With one out in the fourth, Kelly Hunt drilled a long, one-out home run off of Morgan to cut the deficit to 4-1. The blast was the first baseman's sixth of the season.
Garth McKinney led off the fifth inning with a home run, his ninth, down the left-field line to almost the same spot as Hunt's. An inning later, Bradley Key crushed a ball over the wall for his third home run of the season. Unfortunately for the Hounds, it as again a home run with the bases empty.
Morgan, who improved to 3-1, left after seven innings. The southpaw allowed six hits and three runs while walking none and striking out eight. Price worked six innings, scattering 12 hits and allowing four runs, three earned, with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Wayne Hedden pitched a scoreless eighth and Steve Alverson worked the ninth for his league-leading sixth save.
McKinney had three hits in four at-bats for the Foxhounds while Key and Hunt both went 2-for-4. Tim Sweeney had the only other hit.
Morgan, Luke Barganier, and Peery each had three hits for the Juice.
The two teams will meet for game two of the series on Friday night at Hernandez Stadium with the first pitch slated for 7:05 PM.
