London Lightning News Release
(London, Ontario) It was a night of firsts at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario. At 7:10PM, on November 3rd, the host London Lightning tipped off against the Halifax
Rainmen in their first ever NBL Canada game. Shortly there after, Brandon Dean scored the first points of the game for London.
At the end of the first quarter, Halifax held a 2 point lead, mainly due to their pressure 'D.'. They stretched it to four by half, 54-50.
A pair of dunks (Gabe Freeman, then DeAnthony Bowden) bookended a strong third quarter run by London. They lead 93-79 after three.
For players and coaches, winning the game was most important, but to the fans, the arrival of a pro basketball league in town was the more significant victory. Three thousand fans turned out to support the Lightning and their gorgeous new home court.
The Lightning didn't disappoint, winning 118-110.
