Locomotives Announce Protected List

April 6, 2011 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Las Vegas Locomotives News Release

LAS VEGAS, NV ‚¬" Wednesday, April 6, 2011 ‚¬" The Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League have announced the team ‚¬â„¢s 40-man protected player list for the 2011 season.

Heading the list of players the Locos aim to have return from the 2010 season roster are quarterback CHASE CLEMENT, who started the season as third on the depth chart, but wound up earning the honors for UFL Championship Game MVP in the Locos ‚¬â„¢ victory over the Tuskers; running back DEDE DORSEY, who was the 2009 UFL Championship Game MVP and was second in the UFL in rushing yards (439) and yards from scrimmage (699), and linebacker ED HARTWELL, who is a hometown hero that played his high school football at Cheyenne High School and was second on the team in tackles (43).

‚¬Å“We are thrilled as an organization to protect the core players from our team that have helped us win the Hambrecht Trophy each of the past two seasons, ‚¬Â said Locos Head Coach JIM FASSEL who decided to protect a league maximum 40 players. ‚¬Å“We ‚¬â„¢ve had great chemistry on the field and in the locker room, so while we are constantly looking to improve our talent, we do not want to disrupt what has already proven to be a successful group of men. ‚¬Â

The protected list can be found at: www.ufl-football.com/las-vegas-locomotives/player-roster.

Other key players on the Locos protected list include ADAM BERGEN, who led all UFL tight ends for the second consecutive season with 19 catches in 2010; linebacker TEDDY LEHMAN, who is the UFL ‚¬â„¢s all-time leading tackler (104) and defensive end ERIK HENDERSON, who finished second on the team in sacks (three) and has started every game for the Locos on the defensive line for the past two seasons.

Wide receiver SAMIE PARKER is protected along with cornerback WALE DADA who has four career interceptions with the Locos, running back MARCEL SHIPP who was fourth in the UFL in touchdowns scored (four), and FRANK ADAMS, offensive lineman for the Locos who started every game in franchise history at the right guard position.

‚¬Å“Our coaches and players have been working hard since the UFL Championship and we are excited to get back on the field and see where we are at as a team, ‚¬Â Fassel added.

Each UFL team will begin the process of re-signing the players on their protected list as they build their roster for the 2011 UFL season. Added at a later date will be those selected in the forthcoming 2011 UFL Draft and players whose UFL rights each team claims through the Professional Exempt List for players who have signed with other professional leagues.

The Locos went 5-3 in 2010 and earned a trip back to the UFL Championship where they defeated the Florida Tuskers 23-20 to retain the William Hambrecht Trophy for the second consecutive year.
