Local Standout Assigned to Brigade

Rochester Brigade News Release


(Rochester, NY)-Rochester Brigade head coach Mark Saunders announced that he has been assigned former Greece Athena High School standout OL/DL John Ahern from the arenafootball2 league offices.

Ahern, 6-4, 305 lb, comes to the Brigade from the University of Delaware, where he played 42 games for the Blue Hens and started in 32 of them. The three-year starter was named to the 2002 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-American Team, which is awarded to athletes for their athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements, community involvements and leadership qualities. Ahern was also named to the 2001 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Academic All-Star team, as well as being named to the College Sports Information Directors of American CoSIDA/Verizon District II All-Academic team for the third time. He earned All-Atlantic 10 honors as a junior and senior, three Atlantic 10 Conference All-Academic team awards and led the squad to the NCAA I-AA semifinals in 2000.

"John's (John Ahern) had great success at the High School and College level and we're looking forward to having him on the team," stated Saunders. "He'll have an immediate impact and be able to step in and contribute from the start."
