Laredo, TX: The Laredo Lobos and the Head Coach Lawrence A. Fisher are proud to announce the signing of Roberto Ortiz a running back/wide receiver, and Linebacker James Knapp. These two impressive athletes mark the pursuit of excellence that the Lobos are striving to obtain under Fisher.
Roberto Ortiz- Receiver/Running Back

A native from Laredo, TX, Roberto started his playing career at J.W.Nixon High School. He lettered all 4 years of his high school career in football, track and power lifting. Upon graduating Robert enlisted to the United States Marine Corp. During this time Robert was deployed to Iraq and the Middle East. During his enlistment Robert played on the US Marine Corp Football team as a running back, and he was a member of the All Marine Track Team. After serving his country proudly for four years Robert was honorably discharged on August 19th, 2005. Since serving his country Robert has been attending Laredo Community College where he is majoring in Secondary Education specializing in English.
James Knap- Linebacker

Knapp is a two-sport athlete who played both football and baseball at Div I Florida International University. He began his collegiate football career as a defensive back that later excelled at linebacker while being a four year starter at long snapper and a special teams mainstay. He was an intricate part of the FIU defense where he led the team in tackles; four out of his five starts in 2005. James was the Special Teams Captain at FIU and a leader on and off the field.
Academically Knapp excelled as well by becoming a four time Honor Roll Student and also making the Deans List. While at FIU he was recognized with many awards such as the NCAA Leadership Award and the Sun Belt Conference Sportsman of The Year Award. The NCAA News has recognized James for his active roll in the community with the Angel Tree Ministries Program, he is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and he regularly participates in Habitat for Humanity Events.
Born on May 10, 1982 son of James and Nixia Knapp, older brother to Jason Knapp, graduated in December of 2005 from Florida International University with a Bachelors Degree in Sports Management.
