Alaska Professional Sports, Inc. and the Alaska Wild are proud to announce the signing of West High School Star Athlete and former Canadian Football League player Nick Mystrom (6'4ft, 227lbs.) for the 2008 season. After Mystrom's great high school athletic career he took his talents to Colorado College were he was "Mr. Everything". Mystrom played many positions while at CC, including punter, place kicker, wide receiver, and kickoff returner. Mystrom is the all-time leading scorer in Colorado College history with 263 points scored. He was also an all-conference selection three times. Mystrom's offensive statistics at Colorado College are also impressive. He somehow found time to play on CC's basketball team. After Mystrom's college experience, he took his talents north to the Canadian Football League. Mystrom was a starting place kicker and backup quarterback for the Memphis Mad Dogs in 1995, where Mystrom made the CFL's all-rookie team as a place kicker. In 1996, Mystrom went on to play for the British Colombia Lions after the CFL went to a all-Canadian team format. Mystrom is coming in this 2008 season as a quarterback, but the AK Wild fans might see him at kicker if called upon.
Today, Mystrom is still considered "Mr. Everything". Mystrom runs a multitude of businesses that includes a construction company, a land development company and a couple of restaurants in Colorado. Mystrom has also been seen on television numerous times as the History Channel's "The Big Build" show host. Mystrom is the son of former Anchorage Mayor Rick Mystrom. "Nick will be in training camp challenging for the starting quarterback position in mid-February and we are very pleased that Nick is coming home to play for the Alaska Wild in 2008", Alaska Wild Head Coach Hans Deemer said. "Having a special athlete like Nick who brings a lot of leadership and talent is a tremendous addition to our team".
Another name familiar to Alaska football fans is Apelu Alailefaleula. Apelu (6'3ft, 275lbs.) a former Bartlett high school football standout has signed with the Alaska Wild to play linebacker for the 2008 season. Apelu was an all-conference, all-tournament and all-state selection while playing for Bartlett. Apelu played college football at East Los Angeles College and was an all-conference selection. Apelu is the younger brother of NFL Player Tui Alailefaleula, who also was a former Bartlett and former University of Washington Lineman standout.
