Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are thrilled to announce that former Penn State fullback and local high school football star has been assigned by the arenafootball2 league for their 5th year anniversary season.

Paul Jefferson, 6'1 265 pound FB/LB, played at Penn State from 2000-2004. Jefferson was a two year starter for the Nittany Lions where he played a significant role in Larry Johnson's 2,000 yard season. Jefferson, a versatile athlete, excelled not only at fullback but at special teams as well. For the Lions he was a great run blocker and pass catcher out of the back field.

Jefferson, for three years, was honored the Academic All Big Ten. As a senior, Paul was honored as the Pro Football Weekly's Honorable Mention All-American and ESPN Magazines' Academic All District.

Jefferson spent time with the Cleveland Browns during their mini camp after the 2004 season. He also made the last cut for the Arena Football team, Colorado Crush previous from their current 2006 season.

"A nasty, big powerful player that accelerates into blocks and often times leaves defenders on their backs," said Head Coach Rich Ingold "Paul has great awareness and vision, mentally sees the field and works until the whistle blows. What is great about Paul is that he was an outstanding linebacker at GAR High School, with his experience on both sides of the ball, we see him excelling in the Ironman game of Arena Football. Our fans will love watching their hometown star."

Pioneers season tickets for 2006 are on sale to the general public. Anyone interested in purchasing a season ticket package may call the team's ticketing department at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848. Season tickets for 2006 are available far as little as $40.00.
