New York Lizards News Release

Uniondale, NY (June 29, 2007) - The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that they have acquired defenseman Ricky Smith (Hicksville, NY/ University of Virginia) from the Washington Bayhawks in exchange for a 2nd Round 2008 Supplemental Draft Pick.

Smith was the Bayhawks #26 overall selection in the 2007 collegiate draft and suited up in his first MLL action last week against the Long Island Lizards. Ricky is a 2007 graduate from the University of Virginia where he recently completed a stellar career having been named a 3rd Team All American for the 2nd year in a row and was a key part of the Cavaliers run to the 2006 National Championship.

"We have been looking at Ricky Smith for a long time," says Long Island Lizards Head Coach Jim Mule'. "He is an outstanding player and it's nice to bring home another local product."

"Ricky and I both had the honor of playing for Dom Starsia, and I hold Dom's opinion in the highest regard" added Lizards President Dave Kotowski, who played for Coach Starsia while at Brown University. "In my conversations with Dom about Ricky he had nothing but rave reviews for the type of player and the type of person that he is."

The Lizards take the field this Saturday against the Barrage in Philadelphia, but return home Thursday July 5th to take on the Rochester Rattlers at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting the teams website at www.longislandlizards.com or calling the office at 1-866-LIZARD-1.
