L.A. Riptide Battle Western Conference Rival

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, June 29, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide (4-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), fresh off their 21-13 victory versus the Chicago Machine last weekend, will look to stay undefeated on their home field as they take on the San Francisco Dragons (2-3) in a Western Conference showdown at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, June 29 at 5:00 p.m. (PT).

RIPTIDE VS. SAN FRANCISCO IN 2007: Bud Light MVP/attackman Wes Green (Adelphi '06) collected five goals, including the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining, and attackman Michael Watson (Virginia '97) also posted five goals for the Los Angeles Riptide as they fought to a thrilling 14-13 victory over the San Francisco Dragons at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on June 16. The Dragons struck first in the opening quarter and took an early 2-0 lead, but the Riptide quickly tied the game with goals from Green and midfielder Sean Lindsay (Syracuse '04). From there, the Riptide assembled a 7-3 lead after the first quarter, and Watson' two goals in the second quarter kept the Riptide up by a score of 9-8 at halftime. Each team scored two goals in the third quarter, and they exchanged the lead several times during the final quarter of play. Attackman/midfielder Lorne Smith (Princeton '99) equalized the game with his power play tally at 5:54 and the score stayed deadlocked until Green put the Riptide ahead 14-13 at 14:50, which proved to be the eventual game-winning goal. Riptide goalie Mickey Jarboe (Navy '00) faced 29 shots on goal and made 17 saves to earn his third win of the season.

RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (JUNE 23 VS. CHICAGO): Bud Light MVP/attackman Spencer Ford (Towson '99) led all scorers with seven points (2 goals and 5 assists) and attackman Terry Riordan (Hopkins '95) finished with a team-leading four goals as the Los Angeles Riptide beat the Chicago Machine, 21-13, before a crowd of 2,361 at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, June 23. With the win, the Riptide improved to 2-0 on their home field this season and 4-2 overall. They lead the Western Conference of Major League Lacrosse at the midway point of the season and they are 5-0 in five all-time meetings with Chicago over the past two seasons.

SAN FRANCISCO'S LAST GAME RECAP (JUNE 23 VS. DENVER): Attackman Matt Alrich scored four goals, including a two-pointer, and added one assist as the San Francisco Dragons won for the second time in their last three games with a 20-14 victory over the Denver Outlaws in a Western Conference game at Kezar Stadium.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Riptide, with a record of 4-2, enter this weekend as the first place team in the Western Conference...The Riptide are undefeated (4-0) all-time against San Francisco and are undefeated (2-0) at The Home Depot Center this season...Attackman/midfielder Spencer Ford continues to lead the league in assists with 23 and is tied for the league lead with 31 points...Midfielder Sean Lindsay has collected a league-leading three two-point goals this season, including two last weekend against Chicago.
