Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, Ill. (March 28, 2010) - Chris Lipsett scored two goals and added one assist and Justin White piled up four assists as the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the way to a 4-2 win over the Dayton Gems Sunday.

Lipsett's tip-in opened the scoring at the 13 minute mark of the first period.

The Mallards were on the power play when Juris Stals's shot from the slot was deflected home at 17:58 of the first.

Quad City was once more up a man when Tyler Kindle- who also had an assist- ripped the third goal in from the left wing circle 8:55 into the second period.

The Gems seemed to have an opportunity to climb back into the game when they went on a five minute power play at 11:29 of the second, but the lengthy advantage backfired when Lipsett's shorthanded breakaway goal stretched the Mallard lead to 4-0 at 12:31.

Mallard goaltender Jerad Kaufmann finished with 37 saves and was at his busiest in the third period, facing 20 shots as the Gems battled to get back into the game. Dayton finally got on the scoreboard for the first time when Corey Couturier chipped a rebound in off of Kaufmann at 7:45 of the third. At 17:45 it was Tim Hartung who lifted a rebound home to cut the gap to 4-2, but the Gems would get no closer even after emptying the net for an extra attacker late in the game.

The Mallards return to action next Friday night in Port Huron against the Icehawks. The Mallards are next in action on home ice on Thursday night April 8 against the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 7:05 P.M.
