COLUMBUS, GA, November 18 -- The 2014 Alabama-Georgia High School Indoor Football Classic returns Saturday, February 8, Columbus Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson announced, with media sponsors WLTZ-TV 38 NBC and The CW GA-BAMA partnering with the Lions and the host venue, the Columbus Civic Center.

"We are thrilled to bring back this important event, which is our fifth High School Indoor Football Classic" said Gibson. "It's an example of how the Columbus Lions continue to lead the way in with the involvement of youth football in the Chattahoochee Valley, I hope that other teams and leagues follow in this initiative as they have with our Columbus Youth Indoor Football League, now in its seventh year." About 350 youngsters age 5-14 play in the still-growing YIFL, sponsored next season by Domino's Pizza, Regions Bank, & PowerICE.

One of the unique features of the 2014 Alabama-Georgia High School Indoor Football Classic, according to Gibson, will be the College Bowl Game atmosphere for the players and a change to a three-man coaching staff for each team, consisting of a fulltime Lions coach (Branden Hall and Rayshon Reed), a Lions player and a YIFL coach. For the first time, all staff members will be completely familiar with indoor football rules and strategies.

The 7:00 p.m. game itself features approximately 20 seniors each from Georgia and Alabama area high schools, selected from a pool of nominations from area head football coaches. All players will practice on the Civic Center turf for two days to prepare for the game and will stay in local hotels.

WLTZ-NBC 38 will highlight two players every morning Monday, January 27 through Friday, February 7 on the WLTZ First News Today morning news leading up to the Classic. The final player selections will be made by a selection committee including Gibson, his staff and local media.

The game will include all of the excitement of a Lions' game including team introductions and the participation of select high school bands, cheerleaders, and mascots. All players will use the Lions locker rooms and will keep their official game jerseys. Deadline for player nominations is January 10, 2014. Final rosters will be announced by January 13, 2014.
