Columbus Lions News Release
COLUMBUS, GA (February 21, 2012) - On Tuesday, the Columbus Lions of the Professional Indoor Football League continued molding their roster for training camp with the signing of defensive back Jeff Lemon.
Lemon (6'0 190 SW Oklahoma State) a native of Columbus, GA graduated from Carver High School back in 2004. After playing junior college football at College of Dupage in Illinois, Lemons was a two-year starter at SWOSU (2008-2009) leading the club in interceptions both seasons. He finished his Bulldog career with eight picks along with 61 tackles.
After going undrafted, Lemon was signed by the Green Bay Packers as a non-roster invitee making it through OTA's and was invited to training camp. He was ultimately let go by the Packers after suffering a turf toe injury.
"It was a huge opportunity spending a number of months with the Packers," says defensive back Jeff Lemon. "I have had lots of other opportunities to sign elsewhere, but I know where I want to be in the end and in order for me to get back there the best option is being home-grounded."
Other than football, Lemon has many other on-going ventures of which one includes acting in the USA television hit series Unnecessary Roughness shot in nearby Atlanta, GA.
"It's always a plus to sign local athlete with the talent that Lemon possess," says Columbus Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson. "But it's another when you can sign a player who is on the radar of NFL talent evaluators."
Columbus Lions training camp gets underway this week and concludes with the pre-season game against the Team James All-Stars set to take place on Sunday March 4th at 6 p.m with 50% of the games proceeds going towards the United Way.
