Columbus Lions News Release

COLUMBUS, GA (DECEMBER 23, 2009) - With the days winding down before the start of a new year, the Columbus Lions continue to prep for their inaugural season in the Southern Indoor Football by signing Wide Receiver Preston McGann from Michael Irvin's reality show Fourth and Long and re-signing former All-Navy Quarterback Chris McCoy.

First noticed at the UFL tryouts held during the summer in Orlando, Preston McGann (6'2 210, Seminole CC) was invited to Columbus for a workout in November. Before getting invited to Michael Irvin's reality show, Preston was a former college baseball player at Seminole Community College with little football experience. McGann went on to play for the semi-pro Orlando Rage where he won the 2008 Southern States Football MVP. He gained nationwide exposure on Michael Irvin's reality show Fourth And Long, a show featuring six wide receivers and six defensive backs competing for a spot on the Dallas Cowboys training camp roster.

Chris McCoy (5'10 195, Navy) was recently selected on the 50-Year All-Stadium Team that honored the top players in Navy Football History a list that features NFL Hall of Famer Roger Staubach. The former Blue-Gray All-Star Game MVP saw limited action with the Columbus Lions in 2009, as it was his return to football after five-year absence.

"With an entire year under his belt, I feel completely comfortable going into camp with Chris as a back-up Quarterback with the potential of becoming our starter," says Head Coach Jason Gibson. "He has been working extremely hard this off-season and can't wait to see him in action in 2010."

Columbus also this week signed wide receiver Joshua Haney (5'10 190, Citadel), running back Tony Leath (5'7 190, Marshall) and re-signed linebacker Leon Foster (6'2 250, Union). The son of former eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney, Joshua completed his collegiate career with 66 receptions, 804 yards and one touchdown. Coach Gibson first noticed Tony while he was the Head Coach at Eastern Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC. Last season, Foster recorded 22 tackles (17 solo), three sacks, and one fumble recovery.

The Columbus Lions will be conducting one last tryout on January 9th in Orlando, FL. For more information contact the Lions front office at 706-322-3336.
