Columbus Lions News Release
Columbus, GA (Feb 7, 2008) - On Thursday, the Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football Association are proud to announce the signing of Rickie Lewis (6'3" 265, North Carolina A&T).
Back when Head Coach Jason Gibson was still a high school positions coach in Greensboro, NC, little did he know at the time he would eventually coach Rickie Lewis in the professional ranks. Since high school, Lewis achieved great success at higher levels. While attending North Carolina A&T, Lewis was apart of the 2003 Division I FCS championship team, two-time All-American honors, and three-time All-Conference honors. After graduating in 2006, Lewis attended mini-camp with the NFL's Buffalo Bills and would spend the 2006 season with the CFL Calgary Stampeders.
"Getting on the field and playing football is what I'm most excited about doing," says Lewis. "I'm especially excited about the opportunity to play with someone familiar in Coach Gibson, I know he has my best interests on and off the field."
"Its nice to see coaching come full circle, I'm excited about being able to coach Rickie on the professional level," says Head Coach Jason Gibson. "Watching him grow through college ranks and seeing what he has accomplished, Rickie won't be around in this league too long."
The Columbus Lions home season kicks off on March 22 against the Erie Riverrats, but fans can still purchase their season tickets for as low as $56. Contact the home office by emailing us at Jason@columbuslions.net or by phone at 706-322-3DEN. Come be apart of the ROAR that's tearing thru the AIFA!
