Columbus Lions News Release

COLUMBUS, GA (May 6, 2015) - This Mother's Day Weekend, the Columbus Lions (4-2) of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) will look to retake first place when they once again face off with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (5-1) in a rematch from last weekend.

Swapping more blows than the Mayweather-Paquiao boxing match, the Lions and Hawks meet up again on Saturday this time switching venues with the Columbus Civic Center hosting two of the PIFL's top teams. Unlike the boxing match, fans will be treated to a rather quick rematch turnaround with the Hawks besting the Lions the first go-round 46-43.

It's happened six times in league history, teams playing each other in successive weeks, with the team who won the first meeting completing the sweep four times. Another tidbit, in two previous trips to Columbus the Hawks have ended up on the losing end both times including last season's 54-42 loss in which FB Kendrick Perry nearly ran for 100 yards.

In order for Columbus to avoid the sweep they will once again need to right the turnover ship, having turned the ball over three times or more in three straight games. In those three games Lions QB Casey Kacz has thrown nine interceptions including three in last week's losing decision to Lehigh Valley. Keeping the ball away from their stingy secondary will be crucial considering Hawks defenders have found the end-zone in four straight, five overall.

Despite the loss, the struggling Columbus secondary made strides holding opponent under 200 yards passing for the first time this season forcing Steelhawks QB Shane McSweeny into throwing his first two interceptions of the season. Following a suspension handed down by the league where he was caught throwing a punch at the end of the game, the Lions will be without one of their top interception-getters DB Roshawn Marshall.

"It's another crazy week in the PIFL," says Head Coach Jason Gibson. "We have yet to play a complete team game, our defense stepped up last week while the offense left some points on the board especially in the 4th."

For both clubs, Saturday will also mark the start of the second half. Win by Columbus and they will enter back into the current three-team first place race between them, Lehigh Valley, and Nashville (4-2). Fans should expect another tight knit contest, in combined previous four meetings the average margin of victory is only eight points with the home team winning each contest.

Family four pack specials available for as low as $44. Fans should also stop by www.columbuslions.net/solider-salute to nominate the USAA Solider of the Night.  Chosen for every home game, the winner receives four VIP tickets, VIP Parking Pass, as well as pre-game field access.

Kickoff is 7:00 PM and for ticket options contact the Lions front office at 706-322-3336 and to see where the team will visit next in the community you can follow the club on Facebook and Twitter.
