Columbus Lions News Release
COLUMBUS, GA (July 3, 2008) - There will be plenty of fireworks this weekend as the league's two top scoring offenses collide this Fourth of July weekend in the opening of the American Indoor Football Association playoffs as the Columbus Lions (10-4) travel to Tupelo to take on the Mississippi Mudcats (13-1) in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Missing in action will be Lions leading Wide Receiver Anthony Merritt as he has joined the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League. Coming back after missing the last two weeks, Wide Receiver Gerald Gales will be in the lineup as well as Offensive Lineman Monreko Crittenden returning to the club.
The South Division's top two teams have already met twice this season with both clubs splitting the decisions. The Mudcats defeated the Lions back in Week 10 70-61 while the Lions handed the Mudcats their first home loss in two years in Week 11 defeating them 53-48.
Saturday's game features two of the league's top scoring offenses. The Lions, led by Quarterback Joey Conrad are number one in the AIFA averaging 226 passing yards and 55 points per game. Led by Wide Receiver Daryl Carter, the Mudcats average 222 passing yards and 53 points per game.
Fans can spend their holiday weekend with the Lions and travel to Tupelo on the Fan Bus for only $75. The trip includes transportation to and from Tupelo, a game ticket, food and beverages on the ride to the game, and a Lions rally towel.Â
For those fans that can't make the game, they can be sure to follow the play by play action from announcer Mike Vee this Saturday night by logging onto www.columbuslions.net and clicking the LIVE365 icon.
