Lions defeat Bulldogs

COLUMBUS, GA - Led behind quarterback Chris McCoy's six passing touchdowns, the Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League defeated the North Georgia Bulldogs 93-12.

After a long opening kickoff return and quick strike from quarterback Lacey Herring to receiver Kevin Isaak, the North Georgia Bulldogs crept out to an early 6-0 lead. For much of the first quarter, the Bulldogs controlled the clock until the Lions finally got on the board thanks to a fumble recovery for a touchdown by defensive lineman Franklin Lloyd.

Once the second quarter hit, the Lions offense finally seemed to hit in stride as McCoy connected for three of his six touchdowns with two going to receiver Tirone Morris. In the first indoor start, McCoy finished Saturday completing 20 of 25 passes for 263 yards six touchdowns. Morris was the top target on the evening collecting six catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Gerald Gales was the main red zone target for McCoy bringing in four catches for 19 yards and three touchdowns.

The Lions defense was up to its sting ways collected six turnovers, four via interceptions and two by fumble. Linebacker Ryan Babb brought in two interceptions returning both for touchdowns including one getting returned for 50 yards. Newcomer Barry Tate grabbed his first interception while Anthony Merritt collected the Lions fourth pick.

Saturday's game was the Lions defense second straight home game holding the opposing offense scoreless in the second half. Bulldogs quarterback Lacey Herring struggled much of the evening only completing 11 of 27 passes for 118 yards. Collectively North Georgia's offense was withheld to only 108 total yards.
