Lions Announce Final Tryout Date

The Columbus Lions have announced that they will be holding their final tryout prior to training camp on Sunday, February 9th at the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, GA. Four players were signed from the last tryout on Aug 3rd,2013. "We still have needs for this upcoming season, I was pleased with the previous turnout and we were fortunate to sign the players that we did" commented Head Coach Jason Gibson. The Lions are looking to build off their 5 playoff appearances, 70 plus victories, 3 southern division titles, and the 2010 SIFL Champions. Over the last five years, Coach Gibson and staff have producedeight Players of the Year and have led the league in All-Pro selections three times.35 players have signed NFL, CFL, or AFL contracts.
Registration will begin at 1:00 PM and the tryout will begin promptly at 2:00 PM.The pre-registration fee is $60.00 and can be done by going to www.columbuslions.net. Registration the day of the tryout will be $75.00 and will only be accepted in the form of cash or money order (no checks will be accepted). Participants should wear athletic shorts, tennis shoes or cleats for a turf surface. No metal cleats will be permitted. Players will be tested in the 40 yard dash, 20 yard short shuttle, and the "L" drill. Following the testing, participants will do position specific drills and 1 on 1's. The tryout is expected to last2 hours.

"These tryouts are a great way to discover new talent," said Head Coach Jason Gibson, "the southeast is a hot bed for football talent and we just hope to discover or rediscover some guys that can help us." Gibson hopes to sign a few players based on the talent level.
