Columbus Lions News Release

COLUMBUS, GA (December 28, 2009) - With the news that kicker Carlos Martinez was expected to sign with an AF1 club, the Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League acted quickly in signing kicker Trey Crum (5'7 170, Delta State) formally of the El Paso Generals and Mississippi Mudcats.

Its no easy task for any club to replace 174 points, especially when it comes from your kicker. But the Columbus Lions were left with the daunting mission of finding a replacement for former AFL kicker Carlos Martinez. Coming in to replace Martinez is Trey Crum who spent the 2009 season with the IFL's El Paso Generals and 2008 with the AIFA's Mississippi Mudcats.

"Carlos was an awesome player to have in and out of the locker room for us last season," says Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson. "We wish him all the luck as he moves on because he truly belongs at the next level, but I am just as excited to see what Trey can provide for our club."

Trey comes out of Delta State University where he was a Division II All-American and still holds many Gulf South Conference records including most single-game points (18), single-season points (111), and most field goals in a game (5).

Back in 2008, Trey was once a division rival of the Columbus Lions when he played for the Mississippi Mudcats as both clubs were in the AIFA. That season, Trey accumulated 37 uno's and finished 17 of 28 in field goal attempts collecting 155 points. In 09, while with the Generals, Crum was tops in the IFL in field goal percentage.

"Anytime you play against great players, you will always remember their play while wondering what your club would look like with them on it and that's the case with Trey," continues Columbus Head Coach Jason Gibson. "I followed him throughout the past two years and had to jump at the opportunity to bring him along as were lucky to have signed a kicker the caliber of Crum."

Before they kickoff their 2010 season, the Columbus Lions will be conducting one last tryout on January 9th in Orlando, FL, contact the Lions front office at 706-322-3336 or visit www.columbuslions.net.
