
Lions add 1st team All-Southern Conference DE

COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League are proud to announce that they have added former Elon College defensive end Andre Campbell, and Southwestern offensive/ defensive lineman Matthew Nix. The Lions continue to add young players with strong collegiate resumes in hopes to replenish the talent that has moved up to play in the AFL.
Andre Campbell (6-0, 255)- was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection in 2009. He recorded 40 tackles, including 16.0 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks, during his senior campaign. Campbell started all 12 contests for the Phoenix, helping the team to its first-ever FCS Playoff appearance. In his four seasons in the maroon and gold, Campbell amassed 90 total tackles. Of those, 20.5 were for a loss and there were 11.5 sacks in 44 games.
Matthew Nix (6-5, 280)- a versatile lineman that could see action on both sides of the ball. Lions Head coach, Jason Gibson discover Nix while coaching him in the inaugural Doughboy Bowl in which he played for the 3rd Brigade's Hammer Football Team. "Matt is physically gifted and his size and knowledge of the game blew me away. I look forward to seeing him in the arena game" stated Gibson. Nix recently returned from deployment in Iraq, as he served as a Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Division of 3rd Brigades' 3rd Infantry Division.
The Lions and the SIFL will beholding a league tryout in Columbus, GA on December 19th at the Columbus Civic Center. "This is a greatopportunity for players to be seen by not just the defending SIFLChampion Columbus Lions staff but by other coaches as well" said Gibson. We are inviting agents and coaches from all over to evaluate the talent and also have a chance to make contacts.
