Lindsey, Castillo named Players of the Week

New Jersey 1B John Lindsey and Quebec RHP Marcos Castillo were selected by SportsTicker, the Can-Am League's official statistician, as Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of June 27-July 3.
Lindsey went 10-for-19 with three doubles and a home run to go along with a .947 slugging percentage as New Jersey went 5-0 on the week, running their winning streak to eight games and moving to within four games of first-place Worcester. The Hattiesburg, Mississippi, native had at least one hit in all five games, including a 3-for-5 night on Tuesday in the Jackals' 8-1 victory over North Shore. Lindsey is currently eighth in the league with a .341 batting average, second with 44 RBI, and first with 22 extra-base hits.
A 12th-round draft pick of Colorado in 1995, Lindsey spent ten seasons in the Rockies and Mariners organizations, reaching as high as AA San Antonio in 2003 and 2004. In 2002 with San Bernardino of the California League, the 27-year-old hit .297 and was third in the league with 22 home runs and 93 RBI. This is his first season in independent baseball.
Recently claimed off of waivers from Brockton, Castillo was sharp in the second game of Quebec's doubleheader against North Shore on Friday, shutting out the Spirit while scattering seven hits and striking out four in the Capitales' 8-0 victory. It was his first win as a Capitale and his third of the season.
The Rio Caribe, Venezuela, native is in his eighth season of professional baseball after being signed as a non-drafted free agent by Los Angeles in 1996. He led the California League with 14 wins at San Bernardino in 1999. Last season, Castillo, 27, split time between Pensacola and Amarillo of the Central League, going 7-8 with a 3.75 ERA.
