The third-seeded Mary Pierce fought off six straight match points in the third-set tiebreak, battling back to reel off eight consecutive points and cap a thrilling 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(6) quarterfinal comeback over Moscow-born Elena Likhovtseva at the Kremlin Cup.

"In tennis it's never over until it's over," said Pierce, who has won eight of 12 matches against Likhovtseva. "She played a great match, her groundstrokes were unbelievable and she just really gave me a hard time. I just felt I wouldn't give up until it was over and it paid off in the end."

Trailing 0-6 in the third-set tiebreak, Pierce began to pound the short balls Likhovtseva hit to spark one of the greatest comebacks of her career. The seventh-ranked Pierce advanced to the semifinals for the fourth time in the past five tournaments.
