Lights FC Visits Oakland Before Three-Game Homestand
July 27, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Lights FC went back on the road to face the Oakland Roots after playing three consecutive home matches.
Both teams didn't generate many opportunities in the first half that ended 0-0. Oakland registered 2 shots on target and Las Vegas none.
It was a different story in the second half, where in the first half hour Lights FC took 10 shots, with 3 of them being on target, but just as in their 2-0 loss at home last Saturday they weren't able to bury any in the back of the net.
Oakland took advantage of it with a breakaway in the 76th minute. Bryan Tamacas served a perfect ball from near midfield to Anuar Pelaez, who struck the ball in the box past goalkeeper Leo Diaz to open the score with the lone goal of the match for the Roots' 1-0 win.
Lights FC had apparently scored another miraculous goal in added time to tie the game in that fashion for the third time in their last four outings, but the officials called an offsides on a play where Las Vegas native Azriel Gonzalez floated a shot over Oakland's goalkeeper and Andrew Carleton pushed it past the goal-line. The officials called an offside despite Carleton being behind the ball when Gonzalez touched it towards goal.
NEXT GAME:
Las Vegas returns to Cashman Field on Saturday to continue a streak of four consecutive weekends playing at home to host Sacramento Republic, who currently hold the best record in USL Championship's Western Conference. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m.
