(London, On) The London Lightning played their first exhibition game of the season tonight against the Windsor Express at Budweiser Gardens to an audience of 1592 spec- tators.
The Lightning looked to be in midseason form as they crushed the Windsor Express 130 97.
Leading the way for the Lightning was Morgan Lewis who had a well rounded 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and three blocks in 29 minutes of play.
We were very pleased with the performance of our guys tonight. It was nice to see them all on the floor after three hard weeks of practice, said General Manager Taylor Brown.
Last year's league MVP Gabe Freeman, who played his last game with the team this evening, produced another strong effort with 20 points and seven re- bounds.
For the Express, Greg Surmacz led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Victor Morris added 16 points to pace the expansion Express. While the Express battled toe to toe with the Lightning under the basket rebounds were 47 44 in favour of the Lightning London couldn't miss from the field, shooting 55 per cent compared to Windsor's 40 per cent. Despite a late second quarter push, they saw the Express close the gap to four points at half-time, the Lightning struck for 71 points in the second half.
Coach has been working these guys hard and it showed tonight. We are excited for the season to get going, Brown added.
The season opener will be Saturday November 3, 2012 at Budweiser Gardens against the Halifax Rainmen.
