London Lightning News Release
(London, On) Bittersweet. This is the best way to describe the news that our MVP Gabe Freeman who has been such an integral part of London's newest professional sports club. Gabe Freeman has played his last game for the London Lightning for the 2012-13 season. Freeman has signed on with San Miguel Beermen in the Philippines and the Lightning has released him to pursue his career.
"We are extremely happy for Gabe. Michael Ray has been adamant about trying to help our young players reach the next level both professionally and finan- cially. Our league is a true development league and Gabe's contract speaks volumes about the talent level that we have in the NBL and specifically the Light- ning. This type of contract isn't offered very often and when Gabe came to us on Thursday night to let us know about the offer from the Philippines - we advised him that he needs to jump on this opportunity right away. We want to assure our fans that if we could have matched Gabe's contract we would have - but there is a league salary cap in place and it was impossible for us to do so. Gabe has been a true leader on and off the court for the Lightning. He played a major role in our success both in winning the championship and with our success as a rookie franchise. Michael, Vito and I are extremely confident in the guys that we have on our team and our main focus will always be to put a championship team on the court. We wish Gabe all the best with his new chapter and obviously will welcome him back to London anytime." Taylor Brown General Manager of the London Lightning
