Louisville Lightning News Release

The Louisville Lightning have re-signed two more veterans to the roster early this week, as well as added a rising young star in goal. Nick Staggs and Lindsay Smith have signed new contracts with the team, and the Lightning agreed to terms with goalkeeper Trey Kramer.

Kramer joins the team after finishing his career with Transylvania University and Lexington FC of Lexington, Kentucky. Kramer was named to the All-Conference Team at Transylvania, and the former Lexington FC 88 Premier player was invited to tryout with the Richmond Kickers of the USL 2 earlier this year. As a college senior last year, Trey started in all 22 matches with Transylvania, earning 85 saves and a .56 goals against average. He earned twelve clean sheets and led Transylvania to its first Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Kramer was also named to the 2009 John Carroll Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team. A native of Versailles, Kentucky, Kramer was named 2009-2010 Transylvania University Men's Athlete of the Year.

The Lightning also re-signed defender Nick Staggs and forward Lindsay Smith early this week. A Louisville native, Staggs played in 11 games for the Lightning last season, scoring one goal and adding five assists. He contributed six blocks for the Lightning last season, and Staggs scored a goal last month in the Lightning's Pink versus Yellow 'Kick Cancer' exhibition match.

Staggs played his college soccer at Louisville's Bellarmine University and earned playing time with Bon Air Soccer Club and Javanon Soccer Club. Staggs won a state championship with Javanon in 2001. The 26-year-old played high school soccer with Louisville's Saint Xavier High School, winning a state championship in 2000 and finishing as runners-up the following season.

Forward Lindsay Smith also re-signed with the team early this week. The 27-year-old made three appearances with the Lightning last season, scoring three goals and adding one assist. A native of Louisville, Smith played soccer collegiately at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. He also played club soccer at Louisville's Javanon Soccer Club, and high school soccer at the Louisville Collegiate School. Smith also coaches soccer, and the Lightning forward led the Javanon 92's to their second consecutive regional championship.

Kramer, Smith, and Staggs are now with the team in training, and all three will be in uniform for Friday night's season opener against the Cincinnati Kings. For season ticket information, please visit www.louisvillelightning.com/TicketInformation/index_E.html
