
Lightning Outlast Edge in Season Opener

The London Lightning opened up their 2018-2019 season with a big win over the St. John's Edge on Sunday afternoon. A close game all the way through, the Lightning finished the game with a 107-103 victory.
Head coach Keith Vassell was quite impressed with his team's effort in the win. "Games like that really shows who wants it. Players were stepping up when they had to." Even with this win, Vassell is aware there is room to improve moving forward. "We just got to get better. It's only the first game of the season, there is 39 more."
Leading the charge offensively was newcomer AJ Gaines. Gaines register a game high 30 points along with 12 rebounds. "We came together when it was time. I think we have a little work to do, but as far as coming together as a family, we did a really good job of that today."
Marcus Capers had a big game in the paint, leading the Lightning with 14 rebounds to add to his 15 points. Xavier Moon and Marvell Waithe each scored 17 and 16 points respectively.
The Lightning's next game will come on Thursday November 22, 2018 where they will travel to Sudbury Ontario to play the newest team in the league. The next home game will be on Thursday December 6, 2018 when they will take on the Windsor Express.
