St. John's Edge News Release

It's not how you start, it's how you finish. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. Any number of cliches could be used to describe tonight's effort from the St. John's Edge but however you slice it, they gutted out quite possibly their biggest victory of the season thus far.

1st quarter - Dreadful start to this one for the Edge as they went almost four minutes before getting on the board. Nothing going right. Poor shot selection, turnovers and just plain out of sorts. Meanwhile, London casually went to work and jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and were up by as many as 16 with just over two minutes to go in the quarter. London with the lead 28-16 at the end of the 1st.

2nd quarter - Edge showing some signs of life courtesy of some outside shooting from Ahmad Thomas. Less than two minutes to go in the half and London pushed the lead to 17. Edge managed to get trim the deficit but obviously had work to do. 49-35 at the half.

3rd quarter - Here come St. John's. Everything going right for the Edge. Junior Cadougan leading the way as St. John's look to have made some major adjustments during the half. The Lightning, on the other hand, seemed content to coast along. They allowed the Edge to climb back into this one and the lead was cut to 71-68 to end the quarter.

4th quarter - Once again it's Cane Broome with the clutch performance down the stretch. Broome looked simply unconscious as he dropped 18 points in the fourth quarter. London tried to keep pace but could not find an answer for the high octane offence of Edge. St. John's put 41 on the board in the final frame and won this one going away. 109-98 for the Edge is the final.

Edge head coach Steve Marcus had some glowing comments for his team following tonight's effort. "Really proud of our guys tonight. After a tough start, they didn't cave. They fought back and clawed 'til we were finally able to get over that hump. Our bench was fantastic tonight.", he said.

Game Notes:

+ St. John's were led by Cane Broome(27 pts, 2 assts and 1 reb) and Montay Brandon(12 pts, 16 rebs) again provided a huge double double.

+ London were led by Marcus Capers(29 pts, 7 rebs, 3 stls) and Garrett Williamson(18 pts, 10assts, 2 stls)

+ St. John's with a huge effort from their bench again tonight. 56 points for their second unit whereas London received just 18.

+ Coming off a team record 69 rebounds in Thursday's win at KW the Edge mustered another exceptional effort with 61 boards.

The London Lightning(12-4) look to regroup before the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans come into Budweiser Gardens on Monday. For the Edge(8-6) the road trip continues on Wednesday in the nickel city when they face-off with the Sudbury Five.
