London Lightning News Release
(WINDSOR, Ontario) - Tonight, in front of 1350 spectators at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, the London Lightning were defeated by the Windsor Express, 97-80.
Leading the team in scoring was guard Stephen McDowell with 23 points, followed by Garrett Williamson with 16 points, and Jermaine Johnson with 13 points.
"Free throws were costly for us tonight. We need to rebound. We need to play more than 22 seconds of good defense at a time," said veteran Elvin Mims. "Once we get these things under control and we gel a little more, I think we'll be in good shape."
Mims was the only player to score a double, double with 12 points and 12 rebounds
The Lightning play their next game on the road on Monday, February 10 against the Brampton A's, and the Lightning's next home game is on Thursday, February 13 against the Ottawa SkyHawks. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.
Tomorrow, Saturday, February 8, the Lightning players will be at four Shoppers Drug Mart locations - Wonderland & Southdale, Wonderland & Fanshawe Park Rd, Wellington & Commissioners and Dundas and Saskatoon - to promote women's health for the first "Pass It On" day.
The players will be on site asking female customers to take a pledge to pass on important information about women's health to their female friends and family members. In exchange for taking the pledge, these women will receive a pair of complimentary tickets to the Lightning game on Monday, February 17, courtesy of Shoppers Drug Mart. The upper bowl will be opened for the third time this season on that date.
"We are proud to work with Shoppers Drug Mart, another important community partner, to support our community of London." said London Lightning General Manager Taylor Brown.
"In addition to caring for the health and wellness needs of our community through eighteen local Shoppers Drug Mart locations, we invest specifically in women's health through our Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN program," says Pharmacist-owner Carolee Coulter. "At Shoppers Drug Mart we believe that when Canadian women are healthy and well, Canada is healthy and well."
