Lexington Sporting Club Earns 2-2 Draw at North Carolina FC, Extends Unbeaten Streak to Five Matches

Lexington Sporting Club reached a 2-2 draw at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC., against North Carolina FC to extend its unbeaten run to five games.
The draw, which saw the first goals of the season for Tate Robertson and Will Baynham, brings the club's record to 3-5-5 (14 points), standing at 9th place in the league standings. The result also saw North Carolina FC move to 7-4-2 (23 points), standing at 1st in the league.
Lexington SC entered the match on the back of a 2-0 win at home over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, which extended the club's unbeaten run to four games.
Things would get off to a slow start in Cary with Charlie Machell recording the only shot in the first 19 minutes of the game before an explosion of attempts eventually saw Nico Brown send a beautiful cross into the box that was headed home by Baynham, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The assist, Brown's first of the season, came just four days after the Baltimore, Md., native played in his 50th competitive fixture.
Amal Knight kept things secure for Lexington SC with the visitors heading into the halftime break with a lead on the road for the first time in club history.
Unfortunately, the second half would not begin quite as well with the home side, which is tied for the highest scoring team in the league, scoring two goals in a five-minute span to claim the lead.
A plethora of substitutions would come in the middle of the second half with Lexington SC looking to get back into the match and continue its unbeaten streak.
The visitors would do just that in the 81st minute when Robertson utilized some set piece trickery from Phila Dlamini to send a beautiful ball right through a gap and into the net to tie the game.
From there it was Knight and the back line of Owen Green, Kaelon Fox, Robertson and Cesar Murillo Jr. who kept the match level to secure the point for Lexington.
North Carolina FC controlled the possession in the match, holding the ball 56.2% of the time and won in expected goals, seeing a 2.30 to 0.30 advantage.
Next up for Lexington SC is another road trip, this time to Wisconsin to face off against Forward Madison FC on Thursday, June 22. The club will then return home to Toyota Stadium for a third matchup against Tormenta FC on July 2.
