Lexi Bender Returns Home to Coach Jr. NWHL Summer Clinic in Seattle

July 22, 2019 - National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) - Boston Pride News Release

As part of an effort to bring the NWHL to cities outside of the league's five current markets, Boston Pride defender and Washington state native Lexi Bender will visit Seattle to host a clinic on Saturday, August 3.

The clinic will be split into two one-hour sessions - 12U at 10 am and 16U at 11 am - at Lynwood Ice Center. Bender will lead participants in skills and drills focused on development and fun.

"I'm really excited to bringing a piece of the NWHL to Seattle next month," said Bender. "It feels like coming full circle, and I am looking forward to working with all the skaters who can make it out."

Seattle is home to Jr. NWHL affiliates the Seattle Junior Hockey Association, the Washington Wild and the Western Washington Female Hockey Association. With an NHL expansion team coming in 2021, Seattle continues to grow as a hockey hotspot. A group called NWHLtoSeattle has been formed, advocating for NWHL expansion to the Emerald City.

"We are excited to see Lexi return home to help promote women's pro hockey in the area and inspire the next generation of players. It will be a great clinic." says Zoë Harris, founder of the NWHLtoSeattle campaign.

The Seattle clinic is part of the Jr. NWHL Summer Clinic Series, which also includes street hockey and on-ice clinics in cooperation with the Tampa Bay Lightning in August, and one on Long Island led by Cailey Hutchison of the Riveters. The series began with an event in North Carolina in June coached by Colleen Murphy of the Riveters.
