Karilyn Pilch Named GM of the Boston Pride
The National Women's Hockey League today announced the hiring of Karilyn Pilch as the general manager of the Boston Pride.
The highly-regarded Pilch joins the Pride after three seasons at her alma mater Boston University, where she was director of hockey operations. Among her many responsibilities in her role at BU, she managed player communication, video operations, schedule and travel. Pilch helped oversee the team's "Giving Day" campaign, which raised $115,000 in one day. In 2017, she worked closely with Hockey East in hosting the conference's tournament.
In August, Pilch will receive her MBA from Boston University with a concentration in Marketing and Operations and Technology Management. She becomes the fourth GM appointed by the NWHL heading into the league's fifth season, joining Mandy Cronin of the Buffalo Beauts, Bray Ketchum of the Connecticut Whale, and Kate Whitman Annis of the Metropolitan Riveters.
"Karilyn is the perfect person for this important leadership position with the Pride," said NWHL deputy commissioner Hayley Moore. "She is brilliant, creative, determined and is passionately committed to working for the betterment of women's hockey at all levels. The NWHL is really happy to have Karilyn managing our team in Boston."
In 2005-06, Pilch was a goaltender on the first women's hockey team at Boston University. She played two seasons and was named to the Hockey East All-Academic team. Pilch served as an assistant coach at Saint Anselm College in her home state of New Hampshire from 2009 - 2016. In her role, she worked with the defense, recruited, oversaw video operations, and organized practice, workouts and travel. Pilch has also worked for USA Hockey as an evaluator and instructor.
"I am honored and humbled to be named the GM of the Boston Pride, and thankful to the NWHL for this opportunity," said Pilch. "With [head coach] Paul Mara and our staff, we will build a perennial Isobel Cup contender which our players can take pride in representing. We will be a team that excites our fans in a city that demands nothing less than championships."
