Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, Texas: June 7, 2004 â On the heels of the ten-player mega-deal made by the Corpus Christi Rayz three weeks ago, the Rayz have made their first official signings of the off-season. The Rayz have come to terms with defensemen Bernie John and Chad McIver and forward Ryan Carter and for the 2004-05 Central Hockey League season, Rayz General Manager/Senior Vice President Larry Linde announced Monday morning.
All three players came to Corpus Christi from Topeka in a trade on May 20th. The signings add the first official names to the Rayz roster for the upcoming year. Rayz Head Coach, Ken McRae, said he was excited to have a few quality names on the dotted line.
"Our first step was bringing big name players to Corpus Christi," said McRae. "The second step was signing them. Now, we have to repeat the process and keep building a championship caliber team."
John, 32, won the CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman award last season and is regarded as one of the best blueliners in AA hockey. Carter, 27, set career highs in goals and points last season and is the all-time leading scorer for the NCAA hockey program of Iona, where he played four seasons. McIver, 26, is a stay at home defenseman who brings size and grit to the Rayz and was one of McRae's most reliable defensemen last season in Indianapolis.
The Corpus Christi Rayz are in preparation for their seventh professional hockey season in Corpus Christi. Make plans to be a part of all the excitement as the Rayz bring a new look to Corpus Christi for the 2004-05 CHL season. Season tickets and corporate packages are currently available.
