Lesue Earns a Pair of League Honors

April 24, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Utah Blaze News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Blaze WR Aaron Lesue has earned two weekly Arena Football League awards for his outstanding performance in the team's 63-62 victory over the Iowa Barnstormers. Lesue has been recognized as the AFL Playmaker of the Week, and was also awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week for a fourth quarter touchdown grab that sent him flying over the dasherboards.

Lesue (5-10, 195, Utah State) turned in a classic AFL ironman effort against the Barnstormers, as injuries on defense forced him to play both sides of ball throughout the fourth quarter. Offensively, Lesue hauled in 11 receptions for a career-high 166 yards and four touchdowns. He also recorded 1.5 tackles while contributing at defensive back.

With 11:34 remaining in the game, QB Tommy Grady dropped back and fired a laser to Lesue, who was cutting out towards the dasherboards. Rather than let the potential touchdown escape his grasp, Lesue went soaring over the dasherboards while snatching the pass out of the air. The crowd held their breath before erupting in excitement, as Lesue leaped over the boards with the ball in hand to show he had made the touchdown catch.

Lesue is now the AFL leader in scoring (23.3 ppg) and touchdown receptions (23). In six games this season, he's registered team-highs with 59 receptions for 617 yards and 23 touchdowns. Lesue was also honored as the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the San Jose SaberCats in Week Three.
