
Goodman, Glasper and Berry Earn Week 7 Honors

CHICAGO - Cleveland Gladiators WR DOMINICK GOODMAN has been named Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week. LB TYRE GLASPER of the Arizona Rattlers has been named Riddell Defensive Player of the Week, and Pittsburgh Power WR PJ BERRY has been named JLS Ironman of the Week for Week 7 of the 2012 AFL season. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week, the AFL Playmaker of the Week and the Spalding Highlight of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week and AFL Playmaker award winner for Week 7 is Utah Blaze WR AARON LESUE. The Spalding Highlight of the Week award winner is TERRANCE SMITH of the Jacksonville Sharks.
RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Gladiators' Goodman (6'1, 210, Cincinnati) was a bright spot in Cleveland's Week 7 loss to Jacksonville. The wide receiver tallied 17 receptions for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns. Goodman's 17 receptions tied a franchise-record and is the highest single game total in the AFL this season. This season, Goodman ranks first in the League in receptions per game with 11.3. The standout receiver has recorded a touchdown catch in every game this season.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arizona's Glasper (6'3, 265, North Carolina) came up big in the team's home win over the San Antonio Talons. The defensive lineman recorded seven tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three sacks. His three sacks tied his own franchise record. During the 2012 campaign, Glasper ranks fourth on the team with nineteen tackles.
JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
The Power's Berry (6'0, 195, Virginia State) was hot despite Pittsburgh's loss to the New Orleans VooDoo. The reigning JLS Ironman of the Year recorded four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown in his return to "The Graveyard." Berry tallied nine kick returns for a franchise-record 242 yards. He returned one 57-yards for a score. Berry also threw a passing touchdown. He has notched touchdown receptions in three straight games and is second in the League in all-purpose yards (212 yards per game). This is Berry's third straight week winning the JLS Ironman of the Week award.
CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK
Utah's LeSue ( 5'11, 190, Utah State) is this week's Cutters' Catch award winner. Looking to earn the team's second victory over Iowa in the past month, Utah needed a big play. So the wide receiver went acrobatic in Week 7. Connecting with quarterback Tommy Grady, LeSue notched a highlight reel touchdown reception over the boards. As a recipient of the award, LeSue will receive a hat and t-shirt from Cutters', the official equipment partner of the AFL.
AFL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK
Utah's LeSue (5'11, 190, Utah State) put up major stats in the team's home win over the Barnstormers. The wide receiver notched 11 receptions for a career-high 166 yards and four touchdowns. He also posted 1.5 tackles. This season, LeSue leads the League in scoring with 23 touchdowns and two extra point conversions. He also ranks fourth in the League in receptions with an average of 9.83 per game. LeSue has collected multiple touchdown receptions in every game this season.
SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Jacksonville's Terrance Smith (6'2, 200, South Carolina State) is the winner of this week's Spalding Highlight of the Week award. The wide receiver wowed the away crowd with a one-handed touchdown catch that helped the Sharks steal a 54-49 road win over the Gladiators.
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Orlando's Dwayne Eley, Jr., Pittsburgh's Randy Hymes, Philadelphia's Dan Raudabaugh, Utah's Aaron LeSue, Milwaukee's Gino Guidugli, Kansas City's Bret Smith and Arizona's Nick Davila.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Georgia's Tracy Belton, New Orleans' Jorrick Calvin, Philadelphia's Dustin Barno, Utah's Mike Lewis, Jacksonville's LaRoche Jackson, Milwaukee's Luis Vasquez and Kansas City's Sergio Gilliam.
JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: New Orleans' Josh Bush, Philadelphia's Jeff Hughley, Utah's Aaron LeSue, Cleveland's Robert Redd, Chicago's Marquis Hamilton, San Jose's Huey Whittaker and Arizona's Arkeith Brown.
The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner on ArenaFootball.com. Candidates include Cleveland WR DOMINICK GOODMAN, Philadelphia QB DAN RAUDABAUGH and Utah WR AARON LESUE. The winner will be announced on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
