Indiana Legends News Release
Indianapolis, IN March 13--Opportunity arrived for Michael Hart with the departure of Tyrone McDaniel and the 6-6 guard from Tennessee-Martin was ready. He doubled his season scoring average in the second quarter alone, hitting two three point shots and scoring 10 points on his way to an 18 point outburst as the host Indiana Legends beat the Las Vegas Slam 112-103 in American Basketball Association action Thursday night. Hart's playing time has increased dramatically the past two games as he filled the void left by McDaniel and he has responded.
Las Vegas established an eight point lead midway through the first quarter before the Legends slowly began to outscore the visitors to take a 27-23 lead after one period. The Slam climbed within one at 4:14 of the second as Patrick Savoy sank two free throws to make the score 45-44. The Legends scored seven points in the final minute to lead 60-53 at the half.
Unhappy with the effort of some of his players, Slam Coach Reggie Theus said only tow words to his team before leaving the dressing room for the rest of the intermission, hoping they would figure out his message by themselves.
Hart then began to build a cushion for the Legends as he hit a pair of free throws, a two point field goal and a three pointer before assisting on a field goal by Coleco Buie to boost the hosts' lead to 78-62. The legends again scored the last seven point of the period to lead 92-72 heading into the final quarter.
After Dwayne Morton sank a three-point shot to boost the margin to 110-88, the Slam began a rally, scoring 12 consecutive points including a three point lay-up by Robbie Jones after a steal in the Legends back court. a Field goal by Shea Seals with :38 to play finally snuffed out any remaining hope for the Slam.
The Legends (10-15) host Detroit Monday at Arlington High School. Las Vegas (3-14) continues their road trip visiting league leading Kansas City Saturday.
