Texas Legends News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA, (Mar. 4, 2015) - The Texas Legends began a three-game road trip on the West coast in Santa Cruz Wednesday night. Despite leading by as many as 13, the Legends dropped their third straight of four matchups against the Warriors this season.
Eric Griffin powered the Legends through the first quarter, shooting 100% for 14 points as Texas battled through eight lead changes to grab a 32-31 advantage. Despite a struggle in the first few minutes of the second, Jarrid Famous, in his second appearance with the Legends, grabbed 10 points and 5 boards to swing Texas ahead by 10 at the half.
The Warriors smothered the Legends immediately out of the locker room, outshooting them 7-2 in an equal number of three-point attempts. With a 50% overall field-goal range and 12 points from Mychel Thompson alone, the Warriors trumped the Legends 33-18 to grab the lead they would carry through the game. Renaldo Balkman knocked down 4-of-6 in the fourth but was no match for the combined 20-point effort of Aaron Craft and Taylor Griffin as the Warriors strolled to a 120-104 victory at home.
Eric Griffin had a team-high 25 points and 3 blocks for the Legends. Famous (15 points, 15 rebounds) and Mike James (19 points, 10 assists) each added double-doubles, and Balkman came off the bench for 18 points, 7 boards to round off the Legends double-digit scoring.
The Warriors were led by Craft with 25 points and 6 steals. Darington Hobson added the game's only triple-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists while Thompson added a 20-point, 6-assist effort.
The Legends will take on the Reno Bighorns next, tipping off at 9pm CT Friday, March 6th. Fans can catch all the action live on www.TexLegends.com.
