
Legends Drown in Mighty Surf

Indianapolis, March 19--Derrick Dial hit a four point shot to end the third quarter and scored four more points on the first basket of the second to quell a third period rally by the Legends as the visiting Surf beat Indiana 133-97 in ABA action Tuesday.
In the ABA, shots made from the back court count for four points. Shots made on a possession following a back court turnover (3-D rule) count for an extra point. Dial hit from just behind the center line as the third quarter ended then hit a trey with the 3-D in effect to open the scoring in the final stanza. Richard Mandeville followed with another trey, giving the Surf 11 points on three consecutive field goals. Indiana never got going, falling behind 9-0 before Dwayne Morton slammed home a shot with 8:53 left. A shot by Coleco Buie cut the deficit to nine at 82-73 with about three minutes left in the third but Indiana never got closer.
Dial led all scorers with 35 points. Juaquin Hawkins added 31. Michael Hart continued his climb in scoring, leading the Legends with 24. Willie Ladson led all rebounders with 13. Indiana (10-17) plays next at Detroit Saturday. The Surf, (17-10, second place in the league) travel to Kansas City for a pair of games against the first place Knights Thursday and Friday.
