Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists dropped their series opener to the Aberdeen IronBirds 9-5 on Tuesday night which snapped a four-game home win streak. Both teams waited out a lengthy rain delay before the action began and Aberdeen used a few big innings to put the game away.
Aaron Brown started on the mound for Asheville and retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced. The Tourists were able to push the game's initial run across in the bottom of the third on base hits by Cristian Gonzalez and A.J. Lee with help from an RBI Fielder's Choice off the bat of Quincy Hamilton.
The IronBirds claimed the lead in the top of the fifth inning with four runs on only two hits, both singles. A pair of walks, a pair of wild pitches, and a hit by pitch enabled the visitors to go ahead 4-1. Aberdeen added a two-run Home Run in the sixth and another insurance run in the seventh to increase their lead out to 7-1.
Lee struck for the Tourists in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run Home Run to straight away center. Zach Daniels extended his hitting streak to nine games with a solo Home Run in the bottom of the eighth. Unfortunately, the IronBirds used a two-out, two-run rally to recapture the momentum in the top of the ninth.
Hamilton drove in a run in the bottom of the ninth with a Sacrifice Fly for the final scoring play of the contest. Lee finished 3-for-4 for the second straight game. JC Correa also added two hits for the Tourists who outhit the IronBirds 10 to 8.
Game Two of the current series is set for Wednesday evening at 6:35pm ET.
