Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA- Jerry Kurz is no stranger to the arena game. As a charter member of the Arena Football League he is also a founding member of Gridiron Enterprises and will be wrapping up his first season as President of af2.
Through his involvement in arena football over the past 20 years, Kurz played an integral part in the league's growth. He has taken that same insight and passion to his new role now being directly in charge of af2. He turned this league into one of the premier developmental leagues in the country.
Kurz was able to secure the future of the af2 by gathering a group of the highest caliber operators to run the teams in the league as well as starting new franchises. He has also raised national sponsors, streamlined the league office to better suit the needs of its member teams, established housing guidelines and organized the first ever neutral site for the ArenaCup.
Not limiting himself to the af2, Kurz also acts as AFL's Vice President of International Development. This role affords him the opportunity to hold international games of the AFL and further organizing the AFL's international expansion efforts. Recently, Kurz oversaw the first-ever training camp on Japanese soil. In February, the af2 held its second international draft. He also adopted a rule that allows a team to dress an extra player if they are from international origin.
Jerry Kurz, President of the af2, will be attending this weekend's game where the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will be hosing the Green Bay Blizzard for the first round of the 2005 af2 ArenaCup playoffs. The game will be held this Saturday, August 6th at 7:30 PM at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre.
"The Pioneers are one of our premier organizations both on and off the field," said President Kurz. "I chose to attend this playoff game because of the fans and partners here being some of the best in our league."
Anyone interested in purchasing tickets for this Saturday's playoff game can do so at the Wachovia Arena box office. Tickets are also available at Ticketmaster by visiting Ticketmaster.com or by calling (570) 693-4100.
