League Finalizes Itinerary for 2014 NECBL All-Star Game
June 26, 2014 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) has finalized all details and game-day timeline and itineraries for the 2014 NECBL All-Star Game on July 20 at MacKenzie Stadium.
"The NECBL All-Star Game is one of the most special and looked-forward-to events each and every year in the league," second-year Commissioner Sean McGrath noted. "It allows us the opportunity to show off our league, our brand and our product at the highest level in front of thousands of fans; it gives one of our organizations an opportunity to plan and host an incredible afternoon and evening; and most importantly, it gives our dedicated and top-notch student-athletes a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to showcase their skills in front of every Major League Baseball organization. From the players' perspective, this game puts them on scouts' radars and increases their chance of fulfilling their dream of becoming a professional baseball player. We could not be more excited to see what the Valley organization has in store for us."
The daylong celebration of the league's top student-athletes and potential stars of tomorrow begins at 10:30 a.m. with a special All-Star Game Brunch hosted by the Log Cabin in East Hampton, Massachusetts. Afterward, the scene shifts to MacKenzie Stadium, home of the league's Valley Blue Sox, who will host the afternoon and evening's festivities.
After gates open at 12 p.m., fans and scouts will have the opportunity to view batting practice, starting with the North Division All-Stars and then the South Division.
The afternoon then continues with the league's annual All-Star Game Skills Competition; first, the league's top outfield arms will test their cannons in the Outfield Throwing Accuracy Contest, followed by the 60-Yard Dash.
Just after 2 p.m., the league's top sluggers will tee off against the spacious dimensions of MacKenzie Stadium in the annual Home Run Derby before the skills competitions conclude with an awards ceremony at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Following fielding practice and field preparations, pregame ceremonies begin at 4:30 p.m. with the introduction of each player and coach before an appearance by to-be-announced special guests. Then, after a presentation of the Color Guard, singing of the National Anthem and ceremonial first pitch, the game will officially begin at approximately 5:05 p.m.
Tickets are available online via the Valley Blue Sox beginning at just $8 for adults and $5 for youths, seniors and military servicemen and servicewomen with valid military IDs.
