STOCKTON, Calif. * The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league have announced WR/DB Jacques Lazarus has been assigned to the Lightning by the af2 League Office and DS Gerard Washington has been traded to the Mahoning Valley Thunder in exchange for future considerations.
Entering 2007 as an arenafootball2 rookie, Lazarus returns to the gridiron after spending his first two seasons in college football at UCLA (NCAA) from 2002-03. Standing at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Lazarus appeared in four games for the Bruins as a 2003 sophomore as UCLA advanced to a postseason bowl berth in the Silicon Valley Football Classic. Lazarus' acclaimed high school football career at Pacific Palisades (Calif.) High accounted for 2,500 yards of offense as a senior. He joins current Lightning assigned WR/DB's Kenyatte Morgan, James Newson and Phil Goodman, scheduled to return to Stockton for the 2007 af2 season.
Washington, who was assigned to the Lightning by the af2 league office on June 16, appeared in five games with Stockton in his 2006 af2 rookie season after spending his college football with the University of Massachusetts (NCAA Division I) and Benedict College (NCAA Division II).
