CAMDEN, NJ-Riversharks right-hander Brett Laxton has been named the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year. The league announced its All-Star team on Friday, with Laxton the lone Rivershark to receive post-season honors.

In his second season with Camden, Laxton established himself as the team's ace. He posted a 15-3 record while sporting the league's lowest ERA, at 3.38. From May 16th to September 9th, Laxton made Atlantic League history when he reeled off an impressive 14 consecutive wins. The Riversharks won 21 of the 26 games Laxton started this season. In August, the Audubon native earned Pitcher of the Month honors, going 6-0 with a 1.87 ERA in six starts.

"Brett is the first guy on the field and the last one off," said Riversharks General Manager, John Brandt. "He did an outstanding job for us this year and it's great to see his hard work pay off."

Originally selected by the Oakland A's in the 24th round of the 1996, Laxton made his Major League debut in 1999. The following season, he appeared in six games for the Kansas City Royals. The 32-year-old attended Louisiana State University, where he set a College World Series record when he struck out sixteen batters in the '93 championship game against Wichita State.

Brian Becker, the first baseman for the Nashua Pride, earned Player of the Year honors.
