NEW YORK (Dec. 18, 2009) - Major League Soccer (MLS) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) today named Lauren Brophy as the companies' Manager of Communications. In her new position, Brophy will oversee all soccer information activities and serve as the primary point of contact for beat reporters covering the League's 16 teams.

Brophy joins the League office from the Chicago Fire, where she has been the Communications Manager since 2007. While working for the Fire, Brophy has been responsible for the day-to-day soccer media relations efforts including press announcements, press conferences and events, as well as local and national, and international media outreach. Brophy is fluent in Spanish and has spearheaded the Fire's Spanish-language media outreach and provided PR support for MLS and SUM events and initiatives.

"We are very pleased to have Lauren join Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing," MLS Director of Communications Will Kuhns said. "The skills that Lauren has gained with the Chicago Fire, combined with her experience working with both English- and Spanish-language media will make her an excellent addition to our organization."

Prior to being hired full-time by the Fire, Brophy served as Media Relations Intern for the club from January to March 2007. Her past experience includes internships with Indiana University Sports Information and the Colorado Rapids. Brophy earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Communications & Broadcasting from Indiana University in 2007.

Brophy replaces Stephen Rodriguez, who recently moved to Austin, Texas. Rodriguez will remain with MLS through the end of December assisting with the transition.
