Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO, CALIF - A Chico High School grad-turned-major leaguer, two members of the Chico Colts and three Chico Heat alumni head up the list of "Legend of the Diamond" inductees as the Chico Outlaws prepare to host the third annual Chico Professional Baseball Hall of Fame awards dinner, Friday, February 16 at the Chico Masonic Family Center.
The Outlaws announced Monday that former Panther standout and Seattle Mariners shortstop Vance McHenry, longtime Chico High baseball coach and Colts player Skip McDonald, former Colts player and manager Les Dalrymple, Chico Heat stars Brian Arntzen and Tim Cooper, and ex-big leaguer and original Heat manager Bill Plummer are the latest to be honored as Legends of the Diamond and will receive special awards during the dinner, catered by Outback Steakhouse.
"The 'Legends' class of 2007 continues to prove what a long, impressive baseball history we have here in the North Valley," Outlaws general manager Becca Hoffer said Monday. "The awards dinner is also a great way to whet everyone's appetite and get fans ready for another exciting season of baseball. It will truly be a special night of baseball memories."
The Chico Professional Baseball Hall of Fame was established in November, 2004 by the Outlaws, a charter member of the independent Golden Baseball League. The Legends of the Diamond award was created to honor individuals with a direct connection to Chico and Butte County who have promoted pro baseball in the region or have gone on to reach the ultimate heights in the sport. Previous inductees include former major leaguers Gary Nolan, Clay Dalrymple, Nelson Briles, Pat Clements, Brian Keyser, Dave Hudgens and Bill James, Chico Heat owners Steve and Kathy Nettleton, Heat players Ken Shamburg and Terrel Hansen, Chico Colts icons Larry Gillick, Bush Dalrymple and Bud Hanna, and longtime Chico-Enterprise-Record sports editor Eddie Booth.
The "Legends of the Diamond" dinner is open to the public; tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. The Chico Masonic Family Center is located at 1110 W. East Ave. in Chico. The evening will begin at 5:30pm, with dinner served at 7:15. The awards ceremony - which will feature visual highlights from each recipient's careers - will conclude the evening's events. Guests will also be able to bid on several silent auction items. Reservations must be made by February 2, 2007 by calling the Chico Outlaws office at 345-3210 or by stopping by 308 Salem Street in downtown Chico. Sponsorship packages including tickets to the awards dinner are also available.
