Syracuse, N.Y. - The Indianapolis Indians used a two-run ninth inning to beat the Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, 7-5 Wednesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. Wednesday night's loss extends Syracuse's losing streak to eight games. The Chiefs haven't won a game since July 20th at Norfolk.

With the score knotted at 5-5, Indianapolis third baseman Doug Bernier worked a two-out walk against Syracuse reliever Atahualpa Severino, loading the bases for Alex Presley. Presley delivered with a single up the middle, plating two runners and giving Indianapolis a two-run advantage.

Earlier in the game, the Chiefs fell behind 4-0 before they even had a chance to bat. Brian Friday walked to begin the game and Akinori Iwamura followed by collecting an infield single. Presley was hit by a pitch in the next at bat, loading the bases for Indianapolis rightfielder Brandon Moss. With nobody out, Moss clobbered a grand slam over the wall in right center. It was Moss's team-leading 17th homer. Moss has seven RBI through the first two games of the series.

The Chiefs scored their first run of the night in the third. It came across on Boomer Whiting's double-play ball to Indians shortstop Argenis Diaz.

Syracuse managed two more runs in the fifth, trimming the Indianapolis lead to one. Leonard Davis launched a home run to deep center, his 11th. Kevin Mench, who singled to begin the frame, also scored on the play.

Down 5-3, the Chiefs mounted another rally in the eighth. With two outs in the inning, Pete Orr cranked a hit into the right centerfield gap and hustled all the way to third for a triple. It was Orr's fourth hit of the series.

Chase Lambin hit a missile deep and out of the park in the next at-bat to complete the comeback.

Severino dropped to 4-2 with the loss. Major league rehabber Jason Marquis tossed five innings in his first rehab start for Syracuse. Marquis allowed four runs on four hits and struck out seven. He threw 72 pitches and gave up one hit after the first inning.

Indians reliever Derek Hankins earned the victory in his Triple-A debut. Jean Machi pitched a scoreless ninth for his 14th save.

Indianapolis starter Mike Crotta went 7 2/3 innings. He surrendered four runs (three earned) and struck out six in the no-decision. He also walked a batter.

Game three of the series will be held Thursday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. Lefthander Matt Chico (5-4, 3.58) is set to start for Syracuse. Indianapolis has not announced their starter for Thursday night yet. First pitch will be at 7:00.
