Late Goals Lift Ice

March 14, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

With one team clinching an Eastern Conference playoff spot and the other team fighting to remain in the hunt, you knew Friday's contest between the Green Bay Gamblers and the Indiana Ice was going to be a close match.

It was a battle until the final eight minutes of the contest when three unanswered goals helped the Ice top the Gamblers 5-2 from the Resch Center.

Indy was fueled in the contest by several impressive performances on all sides of the puck. Brian Pinho recorded four assists and a +3 in the match to extend his point streak to seven games with a whooping 13 points (5G, 8A) in the stretch while Jacob Pritchard potted his 11th and 12th goals of the season in the final three minutes of the contest and finished with a +4. Aidan Muir added a pair of assists in the fray.

Netminder Hayden Stewart continued his impressive showing with the Ice, tying former Indy goaltender Jon Gillies-Providence (HE) with his tenth consecutive win. In ten games in an Ice sweater, the Cornell University commit has allowed only one goal or less in nine of ten matches for a staggering 0.80 GAA and a .965 save percentage.

The game got interesting at the very beginning of the third period with Indy nursing a slight 2-1 lead off a pair of second period goals by Ice captain Tyler Pham and defenseman Matt Roy.

Green Bay's Ryan Lough knotted the contest at 2-2 just 46 seconds into the final period before the 11 minute scoring deadlock was broken by Ice leading-scorer Scott Conway. The Penn State recruit took a feed from Patrick Newell and Pinho to put the visitors on top 3-2 with just over seven minutes remaining in the match.

Pritchard then took over the scoresheet with the help from Muir and Pinho to collaborate on the remaining two tallies to finalize the score at 5-2.

Pinho's four-point night equals a season-high for the Washington Capitals prospect while matching a season-high set by Conway (3G, A) in last Friday's 6-1 thumping of the Lincoln Stars.

Round two of the weekend doubleheader in Green Bay wraps up Saturday with an 8:05 pm Eastern faceoff against the Gamblers. Indy is on the road again next Friday (3/21) before returning home for Saturday (3/22) night's contest with the Youngstown Phantoms from Pan Am Pavilion at 7:05 pm.

Hockey returns to Bankers Life Fieldhouse next Sunday (3/23) as the Ice host the Muskegon Lumberjacks for "Family Night," presented by The Sexton Companies. Fans in attendance will be treated to a free post-game concert by performing artists "New Method."
